"The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be."

How We Became Cape Arago Press

We were sitting around thumping pencil erasers on the tabletop, scratching our heads, and studying our coffee cups as we structured our business plan.

"Business plan." Love that corporate lingo! Maybe we could run it up the flagpole to see who salutes, or do some out-of-the-box thinking, develop benchmarks, flowchart the processes, identify the key players, re-examine our mission statement or...or. Who am I kidding? We're back of the envelope people here at CAP.

Anyway, before very long someone said, "What are we going to call this um, thing?"

Silence.

So the brainstorming began.

"Well, it oughta be memorable."

"The name should somehow reflect the spirit of the organization."

"Won't we need a logo?"

Several silly suggestions and a few dumb looks later, we decided that what we needed was a memorable name that not only defined the organization, but inspired a cool logo. Plus, it wouldn't hurt if it had some sort of local tie-in.

And then it came to us. What says more about persistence and strength of character than a lighthouse? But we didn't want just any lighthouse; we wanted Cape Arago Lighthouse. Not only was it local and inspiring, it looks downright beautiful perched out there on its own little island...and it also makes a darn nice logo.

So now you know!

Good ol'

Warnie

A photo of a stuffed plush toy warthog wearing Christmas reindeer antlers with a plate of food in front of him.

Company mascot and all-around good guy, Warnie the Warthog, at last year's Employee Christmas Party. Things got a little out of hand after Warnie enjoyed one too many chocolate covered cherries.

He claims to have been in Cleveland at the time and denies having any knowledge of the incident in question.

In retrospect, we should have seen it coming when he showed up wearing those antlers.
